An engineering practice, working since 2006
RASSVET began in heavy industry in 2006, took on safety-critical power and process equipment in 2010, and has since widened into twelve sectors. The work is done by a small senior team rather than delegated down a pyramid.
What the record looks like
Twenty years of engineering analysis, fifteen of them on safety-critical plant held to the strictest codes in industry: power stations, ice-class vessels and hazardous-materials processing. Roughly 3,000 units of equipment developed, calculated and designed — all tested, delivered to site and in operation for more than ten years. Alongside that, equipment for oil and gas, mining and metallurgy, frame structures and refrigeration, aircraft manufacturing and shipbuilding.
Our clients are mostly the companies that build the equipment — makers of industrial valves, power machinery and drilling tools among them. Six have sent formal letters of appreciation for the work.
Our designers, stress analysts and drafters came up through the design offices and production plants of the power-engineering industry, and bring more than ten years of hands-on production experience each. They are graduates of MEPhI, Bauman Moscow State Technical University and MATI, four of them Candidates of Sciences. Between them they have published around 100 papers and patents, completed three dissertations, and written books and monographs on design.
Four principles
Independent
We do not sell the equipment we assess. The only thing we have to defend is the calculation.
Verified against tests
Where physical test data exists, results are correlated against it and the deviation is reported. On a recent turbine programme it was under 1%.
Documented to a named code
Every report states the standard it is written against, so the person who accepts it knows what they are accepting.
Turnkey
Concept to complete document set, including repair specifications, acceptance testing and the materials side.
Who does the work
Ten people, each with a defined role on every engagement.

Rustem Gaffanov
Rustem founded the practice and still signs off every report that leaves it. He took RASSVET from strength calculation in heavy industry into the design of safety-critical power and process equipment, and set the standard the rest of the team works to: every result traced to a named code, and correlated against physical test data wherever a test programme exists.

The governing code is agreed at the start of the engagement, not chosen once the results are in.
| Area | Basis |
|---|---|
| Pressure equipment | ASME Boiler & Pressure Vessel Code and EN standards; documentation produced for around 500 product types |
| Marine equipment | Class society rules and marine statutory requirements |
| Power-plant equipment | Strength-calculation codes for power-generation equipment and pipelines |
| Materials | Testing, certification and life assessment with the Prometheus Central Research Institute of Structural Materials |
| Research | Mathematical modelling and digital twins with the Blagonravov Institute of Mechanical Engineering, Russian Academy of Sciences |
| Training | Simulation teams trained for three client companies on the methods developed for them |
| Intellectual property | Patents on drilling bit designs and on a drive mechanism for valve fittings; three Candidate of Sciences dissertations completed in-house |
Software
RASSVET is an official partner of the APM Technology Center, whose product line covers every type of engineering calculation. APM Multiphysics is certified for strength calculation of safety-critical equipment, and we have benchmarked its results against ANSYS on valve temperature, stress and natural-frequency problems. We also work in ANSYS and Siemens environments where a client's process requires it.
